I think Board One is the Grunfeld and Board Four the Bogo, but it's hard to be sure with the names bouncing about.

Draw on Board 4 - still not sure who the players are though.

It's fair spoiling my enjoyment to be honest.

The names have to be typed in against the boards etc. so sorry about that - I do suspect that the board 4 draw was the Conquest game however?

Dave will know?

This often happens following games online. Another favourite is the way in which you watch a game from the start and then it all crashes ten minutes before the time control when everybody else piles in.

But it has spoiled things. There's no excitement when I don't know who's playing, just frustration.

Looks like Arkell is winning so a playoff is still possible

The results page is now showing Williams-Conquest as a draw, so we can safely assume that Conquest and Arkell will play off tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Hawkins-Gormally is a thrilling R+B vs. R endgame

Keith lost the playoff, but he flies off to Boston tomorrow as English Champion (no idea whether this is because Stuart won the British, or because he lives in Spain)

It is about time the selectors put Keith in the England team (althoough I'm biased as he used to play for us at Bury and now lives locally)

Well done to Stuart, Jovanka and Keith

I wondered about that. I thought Stuart would get both titles. No doubt someone wiser that us will explain Mick!

Stuart and Keith share the English Championship title and the money for that.
It is only the British Championship where there is a playoff.

Thanks for clearing that up Stewart. Readers were confused because the official website has a photo on the formnt page with the caption

l to r: GM Keith Arkell English Champion 2008, IM Jovanka Houska British Ladies Champion 2008 and GM Stuart Conquest British Champion 2008.

And we couldnt understand why Keith was champion over Stuart!

If you look, you will find that Stephen Connor corrected this very quickly after it had been drawn to my attention. He is an enormously valuable asset, as is David Clayton.
Jovanka holds two titles: British Ladies' and English Ladies' Championships.

It wasn't a criticism Stewart, I was just explaining why the question was being asked. The caption that I copied and pasted earlier is still the one showing on the front page of the tournament website (at least, it is on my machine). But its no big deal - you've answered the question!

Thanks again for that.
