I've already had a lot of interest in another tour. We're looking at the last week in October (I think that's half term to make it easier for juniors to play in the daytime) and the first few days of November to take in 10 events.

If this appeals, please let me know asap as I'd like to start confirming specific dates please.

CJ, I believe the European Team Championship is from November 2nd - 12th in Heraklion, Greece. The second half of the year would be brilliant for another tour, but we need to give a little more thought to the exact dates. Let's discuss it when you get back from lunch...

Okay. We're provisionally looking at 15-27 inc October. We'll do 10 or 11 simuls and with half term, there'll be more junior events too. I've already got a couple of venues interested so register interest and preferred dates as soon as possible please.

The lectures have proved especially popular and both myself and Nigel show our favourite games which the juniors really like!

Congratulations to Joseph Levene (graded 157) At this afternoon's 27 board junior simul against Nigel Short (graded 262) he was the only one not to lose when he accepted the good doctor's offer of a draw!

In the evening event (which included 2 players rated 199) Nigel scored +20 =2 completing a good result for his time in Middlesex.

Already got 4 venues (5 days) for the October tour (Nigel 2 - Hard Core Pawn) and will probably do one myself so that's half gone already.

Nigel is currently on +129 =9 and if remains undefeated through his 2 events in Bolton, it'll be a remarkable result. In that eventuality, a good prize will be offered to the first person to beat him in October so you may want to reserve one of the earlier days.

Nigel came,saw and conquered at Winchester. 100% over 32 boards.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. Even some of the 8 yr olds from Yateley Manor that Nigel first chastized and then pulverized enjoyed it!

The lecture was good, the question and answer session spicy. Nigel and CJ seemed a bit depressed about the overall state of chess politics, but one can view the game from other perspectives. Taking the game out to average chessplayers, to the young up and coming, as they are doing and promoting the value of chess is much more important than any of the political trash.

I congratulate Nigel and CJ on this initiative. It is admirable.

Yes, we've just had 2 minutes on BBC1 (North West tonight) with archive footage from 1977, plus coverage from today's event, interviewing Nigel and some of the kids

Nigel, and CJ, did an interesting talk and answered questions form the Junior School in the very impressive surroundings of the Great Hall

In attendance were IM Jeff Horner, Allan Beardsworth (ex Bolton School and ex England captain who has known Nigel for nearly 40 years), as well as the Bolton News and the BBC reporter and camera crew, Julian Clissold (MCF Junior Director) who organised today and tomorrow's event, plus Andrew Wilson who teaches chess at Bolton School

There were 11 girls and 19 boys playing Nigel, who mostly opened e4 but played a few d4 games

Live news on the BBC (there's a phrase you don't hear every year) is that Nigel has won 29 with 1 still playing
