Anyone having a street party

Post by Chris J Greatorix » Fri Apr 22, 2011 12:45 pm

for the Royal Wedding? I know quite alot are around my community, hoopefully the nice weather will contine. Far be it for me to presume alot of British chess players are hermits staring at a computer screen all day, but every strong chess player realises the importance of their monarch...

A few things:

1) Shouldn't this be in the "Not Chess!" section?

2) We aren't *all* monarchists, you know :)

3) Even if we are, why should we go along with this enforced jollification regarding two people we (almost certainly) don't know and never will?? Especially when some of us can remember the similar occasion three decades ago - and how it was far from the "fairy tale" sold to us plebs at the time........

It involves a future king or two, a queen and a future queen, a few bishops or archbishops and I am sure that at least one knight will be present. :)

You could join a party run by Republic. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-13091768 I don't remember the 1981 wedding (my mother was pregnant with me at the time) but my impression is that William and Kate are much better matched than Charles and Diana ever were, not least by having an age gap of a few months rather than more than a decade.

I'm attending a street party. Those organising it don't know yet that we're planning to hi-jack it to celebrate the 18th birthday of one of my friends
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

I will probably celebrate the occasion by playing Agricola or Empire Builder or something with one of my friends.

Oh wait, I'm not celebrating the royal wedding, I'm doing what I do the day before most 4NCL weekends.

So are the Chief Arbiter(s); they're travelling to Hinckley making sure their journey coincides with the start of the wedding, in the hope that traffic will be at its lightest.

I'd rather spend the day in motorway traffic than watch that crap.

That happened nearly 150 years before the French did it.

Louis XV1 was around until 1793, when they decided to remove his head. The pawns had the last word.

The French monarchy was restored in 1814 and continued until 1870.

Probably going a little off current topic, but we are off to celebrate with a party in our village. They have organised a barbie, fete, bouncy castles and a live band to top it off in the evening.

Who knows, we might even let the kids have their chance (if they can push us adults off) on the bouncy castles!

The weather says 'rain' so it should be interesting...
