On behalf of the Berkshire Junior Chess Association (BJCA) organising team, we are looking forward to it, and are very grateful to Eton College for letting us use their facilities.

7 teams in each of two events. Teams have travelled from as far afield as Norfolk, Manchester and Herefordshire

after 3 rounds, in the Open event top placed teams are:
Kent (12 points from 18)
Berkshire (10.5)
Surrey (10)
Sussex A (10)

and in the minor:
Northamptonshire (13.5)
Norfolk A (12.5)
Kent (10.5)
Berkshire (10.5)

I've just returned home after playing at this event. Just wanted to congratulate the BJCA organising team: despite the constraints of the venue (*) the event was very well organised, and ran almost exactly to schedule.

Did turnout live up to expectations? There were 9 county teams taking part in the U18 section, which I thought was a very impressive number. Was this a greater or lesser number of entries than the organisers had been expecting?

(*) The venue was a brisk 5-minute walk away from the team rooms. But this was not the organisers' fault.

In total there were 9 x U18 teams and 14 x U13 teams (split evenly between the Open and Minor events), translating to 192 competitors. I guess I would say this was a bit higher than we were expecting, but in line with what we were hoping for. At a practical level, we could have catered for a few more teams in the U18 but the U13 playing hall was close to capacity.

We would welcome any feedback from participants, their parents and team managers. Both positive and areas for improvement. Via the forum, email or phone - all comments most welcome.

Winners of the inaugural schools prize was St. Olave's, with a perfect 6 / 6 score.

Sorry I couldn't get any Oxfordshire teams together. We've got an incredibly small pool of players at senior school level. Although our top two players, Marcus Harvey and Matthew Daggit, could make it, I just couldn't find another ten players. I even tried a few of the better ten year olds before giving up!

We left before Surrey's late surge to deny us third place outright.

I agree it was a very well organised event; the organisers coped with a particularly incompetent team manager from Warwickshire in the build-up to the event well.

Not sure about some of Neville's "rules", but none came to fruition, thankfully.

My only suggestion would be digitals with a 10 second increment; i.e. 60 + 10' and 20 + 10'. But then, I suggest that for every tournament.

Though this year there were less sections - if there had been an U18 minor section Surrey would have hoped to enter a team.

We used 60 + 5' very successfully at the SCCU U18/U14 Jamboree - no 2 minute claims or disputes!

You used 60 + 10' in the U18 last year on the top boards, I seem to remember. I'd be happy with a 5-second increment too.
