e2e4 Irish Open Championships : 2-10 July 2011

Post by Sean Hewitt » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:36 pm

e2e4 Chess are delighted to announce that we will be hosting the Irish Chess Championships on behalf of the Irish Chess Union from 2nd - 10th July 2011 at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Green Park, Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland.

The Championship is a 9 round, 1 game per day FIDE rated event which is open to all players regardless of nationality with a first prize of €1,000.

There are also weekend events on 2/3 July and 9/10 July.

As you would expect, we have negotiated discounted rates with the hotel of €34.50 B&B per person per night (based on 2 sharing) or €59 B&B (single) - both including a full Irish breakfast!

Dundalk is a 1 hour bus ride from Dublin airport with a fare of just €10 return. And thanks to Ryanair, you can get to this tournament for less than the cost of a decent curry!

Full details at http://www.e2e4.org.uk/ireland

PS - Unusually for Irish events, we will be providing all boards, sets and digital clocks for all sections.

...and with South Wales, otherwise I might have been tempted to play. Ah well.

Yes. Up to three byes available per player. The dates were dictated by the ICU I'm afraid.

Sean, Your mention of Ryanair instantly made me think of Fascinating Aida's absolutely brilliant and hilarious song about cheap flights, which can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAg0lUYHHFc (NOT recommended to be viewed at work or with minors, or those of a sensitive disposition, within hearing range!!)

Now, if only you could move the event from Dundalk to Tralee the video would be even more appropriate.

Mark - I've seen that before but it is a very funny video. Perhaps I should embed it on the event homepage?

The venue has been changed and is now Brennan Green Isle Hotel, Naas Road, Newlands Cross, Dublin 22, Ireland.

The hotel have a 4 nights for the price of 3 offer which means that an 8 day stat will cost €391 which is about £43 per night.

Of course, you could just play the first or second weekned - NOT FIDE rated - and just enjoy the craic!

You will enjoy playing chess in Ireland, but don't forget to take a board, set and clock. Check out the "Fascinating Aida" video before booking your Cardiff Ryanair flight; you may find it cheaper to travel on the Holyhead - Dun Laoghaire Ferry.

You don't need to do that at an e2e4 event in Ireland. In any case, that rule only applies to non-Irish players.
