Oh, really? Just as I was admiring his smooth regroupings, as well. Oh well, what do I know?

Jonathan Rogers wrote:looks like a complete collapse from Howell. He could at least have played on for a long time with 20...dxc4 - you don't have to resign when you lose an exchange - and presumably 22...Qe7 was a better grovelling move than ...Qd7. I think he's "gone" as they used to say in snooker.

I was away for last week, but am I right in thinking that "in matches between the big four" Short has had three Whites and Howell three Blacks?
Not quite. Nigel has had three whites and the others one each. David was white against Mickey in round 6.

What now for Adams? Short's pawns on the kingside look menacing. Surely not 29...g5?

Adams is certainly a long way behind on the clock.

I guess a plan for White is h4 and g5 otherwise.

Is 30 Qb7 a nice controlled move?

Very controlled. My club player instincts want to hack. But Qxb7 Bxb7 and than Rcd8 look ok for black?

If nothing else it gives me a chance to quote Keith Arkell "I trapped his queen....... with my queen"

Does 32. Nxf7 work in Short-Adams?

Is Nxf7 possible in Short-Adams?

EDIT: I didn't see Jon's post, honest! :)

Presumably Howell will resign once the time control is reached?
