From Peter Turner - England Team Manager at EU Youth Championships

Good morning David

Isaac is preparing for his 'crunch' match later this afternoon. We are sending a 'Daily Diary' with photographs for the ECF webpage but unfortunately Andrew is on holiday in very remote Western Scotland and is having great difficulty getting an internet connection to process our information. I think he may be back in the Office tomorrow or Thursday and will be able to bring our reports upto date. The official website is excellent with lots of photographs. I'll post the result of Isaac's game later. The round starts at 2 o'clock UK time.
We appreciated Andrew trying to get our information posted whilst on his holidays but I'm afraid probably a combination of our large file size with photographs and the lack of reliable internet access defeated us all.

Regards

Thanks for keeping us informed - another good result, particulary given Isaac was black, good luck to all for tomorrow.

I would suggest that the Office should have contingency arrangements in case AW is either on holiday or otherwise unavailable.

We should not expect someone on holiday to be working.

It is good that he is prepared to give it a try but amateurish to rely on him doing it.

Hopefully there will be feedback to the Office Manager on this topic.

It would be possible to allow someone from outside of the office to also perform this function.

Absolutely. I sent a private email this evening making the same point. The timing was entirely coincidental; I hadn't then seen your post.

Morning David
I understand that prior to the tournament Isaac identified 3 other players as likely contenders and has done considerable pre-event preparation for these players. He has played 2 of the 3 and completes this particular 'hat-trick' in today's game. In addition to doing some work this morning on his own he will be having an hour with Lorin D'Costa before lunch.
I'll try and get an internet connection during the match and keep you informed of progress.

Good evening All

Sorry for my late report but I was unable to get an internet connection duing the tournament. Davis Sheperd has sent the link for the results you will probably know the outcome by now but here is the sequence of events which I tried to send.

1 hour, 10 moves, 1 pawn each, Isaac well ahead on the clock and game following much of the preparation. Then some time later the top board result was in Isaac's favour as the leader lost thereby 2 players on 6.5 points. Now the board 2 game (Isaac's) needed a positive outcome for a third player to be also o 6.5 points. In a very tense & exciting finish with the 30 second increment keeping the game alive unfortnately Isaac lost and will probably need a win for a third place finish.

9th European Union Youth Chess Championship
2nd -11th August, 2011, Mureck, Austria
From Peter Turner – ECF Honorary life Vice~President
This is the 9th EU Youth Chess Championship to be held in Austria. The tournament has proved to be both an ideal first international experience for our players and also a ‘warm-up’ event for youngsters competing later in the year at European & World Championships.

The England Team are:-
U8 Douglas Claridge~Hansen
(Playing in the Styrian)
Oliver Howell
Tai Remus~Elliot
U10 Gautan Jain
Luke Remus~Elliot
U12 William Claridge~Hansen
U14 James Bowler
5 of the team competed at the first week of the British Championships and are now on their way to Austria.

Hi

I'll try to keep 'forumites' upto date with news from the EU Championships. The tournament first round is Wednesday, tomorrow is a player & coaches 'get to know each other day'. I'll also be reporting (with the occasional photograph) to the ECF site. There are 2 Welsh, 6 Scottish & 3 Irish competing so if any forum members particularly want their results I'll add to the England posting but remember results can be found on the tournament website.

Chess Scotland is reporting that one of their players fell foul of a five minute default time, notwithstanding being at the board before the start of play.
