Two enquiries

Post by James Pratt » Sat Mar 21, 2009 11:33 pm

Who can help a journalist?

Two questions.

Dharsan Kumaran. What title did he hold in August 1994?

William Watson. He played a certain Murphy in July 1978 in The Sunday Times semi- or Schools Final. Which Murphy? I need initials please.

Thanks

Dharshan Kumaran was an IM, according to the 1995 Yearbook.

Hi James

I'm sure Richard is correct on Dharshan. He normally is.

I would imagine your Murphy is Hugh Murphy, who if I recall came from Herts. He was a useful player, probably about 190 and he would be about 47 now I guess.

Hope that's useful

I've found Dharshan Kumaran's original entry form for the 1994 Lloyds Bank Masters, which was the 18th and last of the series.

Kumaran stated thereon that his then current title was IM.

Hugh was 190 + when it meant something to be 190+....which is even more 'useful'

Sorry. I forgot that everyone is 190 these days. Hugh was of course a real 190 plus player, no mean achievement in the 70s.
