Curse Justin for beating me to that!

Pawns on f2 and g3, but still winning. I was surprised by the first tablebase assessment. I've upgraded to shocked. I really did not understand this ending.

Round 5 Report

I would certainly recommend trying to solve the puzzle at the top of the page before looking at the solution, I personally found the solution to be very elegant and not that obvious!

At least everyone finished in time for the Opening Ceremony!

I make the leaderboard as being:

Gawain Jones 4.5
Holland, Harvey, Howell, Matt T, Keith, Stephen G

But since White scored 6/7 at the top today, they are all the opposite colour to Gawain (!) and so presumably two players will have two consecutive Whites.

I think that Howell has upfloated already, does that mean that someone else - actually, it would have to be Harvey or Matt - plays Gawain tomorrow? The matter of who gets White in the game between Howell and Jones is of no small importance, one suspects.

Last year apparently most of the top players had an extra White over the tournament. I am not sure what the reason was, but it looks like happening again.

Incidentally, just how tough have Gawain's opponents been? Answer - well, none of them has lost to anyone else. Keith and Stephen have 4/4 against the rest, James Holland and Terry Chapman have 3.5/4 in their other games, and Peter Poobalasingam has 3/4. (That again is the sort of thing the other Jonathan normally points out!!)

Stephen Gordon is due white even though he had it last round!!

I predict the top pairings to be
Jones v Turner
Holland v Howell
Gordon v Harvey
with Arkell downfloating .... but I could be wrong :D :D

He's gone BWBBW (he and Jones were the only players on 3/3, and had both gone BWB, so he got the double black as the lower-ranked player).
