Isle Of Man Congress?

Post by Tim Spanton » Fri May 02, 2008 1:15 pm

I have it on fairly good authority that the Isle Of Man congress WON'T be held this year, not least because the main venue of recent years - the Ocean Castle - has closed. Can anyone confirm, or better still deny, this?

Latest news from John Saunders is that at best it will be a two-day rapidplay in Douglas. End of an error?

I heard at Paignton that the IOM probably will return next year, but as a seven-day event rather than nine days.

That's good news. Have you any more info like dates, location? Presumably no longer in Port Erin?

I was told Sep 20-26 or something like that. I wasn't told location so I assumed Port Erin, but I maybe wrong. I know the Falcon's Nest were keen to host it in their nightclub.

I agree, but a poor turnout might put off sponsors for resurrection of a week long FIDE, which would be a shame.

If they could get all three Polgars to go they'd have Three Sisters at The Cherry Orchard.
