Is no news good news, or is a new thread on the actual games needed?

Chris - I have been looking for the games thread without success. Suffice it to say that Gawain has drawn with Black against Andorra's only decent player and Nigel's opponent should have tried 38 ..Be2 39 Ke2 Ke6 which looks rather embarassing for White.

First shock of the Olympiad - some bloke from Bolivia (alright, he's a 2471 GM) has beaten Movsesian.

I was looking for the results of the ICSC team (International Committee of Silent Chess) and was going round in circles until I realised that match 75 on the live boards is listed as: Burundi 0-4 Czech Republic, when it should be the ICSC, not the Czech Republic. Tsk! There are lots of missing names from the team lists. Not sure what is causing that. Are they relying on the captains to put this information up themselves? And are the three teams not paired (Angola, Cameroon, Afghanistan) not there or just late?

Last time I tried to create a thread, I found Paul Cooksey had the same idea and we had 2 threads and all sorts of confusion. I sort of assumed that Chris K was on the job.

Think the results on the live games page of the official site are wrong. Pakistan 4-0 Moldova down to Thailand 3-0 Turkey and Belarus 0-3 Panama. Either that or there've been a lot of upsets.

There is a 2012 Olympiad thread on the "General Page" - but it might be easier to stick with this one now people have started commenting on the games?

The live boards are all messed up with people representing the opposite country and with the wrong colours and stuff, so this may be an explanation for the wrong results.

All the wrong way round, I think. England are now 2.5-0.5 against Andorra and David Howell's opponent has finally played a bad move so hopefully 3.5-0.5 which is par, you would say.

Eh, but pairings is such a narrow topic... New topic created, but put under General Chat.

Howell a definite win, watched it on Susan Polgar's website, hopefully the coverage will settle down, why it is not peered with something like bittorrent baffles me, I prefer to watch big tournaments on FICS but as far as I could see, they had no coverage of the Olympiad at all. Lots and lots of people will be hitting the main site in Istanbul and as far as I could see their servers were struggling with the load. There are enough big servers out there to peer the load.

According to http://chess-news.ru/en/node/9161, the problem was the queues to get through security.

This has arisen at previous Olympiads and those like Kirsan who consider zero time defaults a good idea really should have a reality check. The arbiters in charge took the pragmatic decision to delay the start until everyone was present which is what would happen in most or many other sports or competitions.
