certainly Black for preference. Odd opening choice from Short - what exactly was he hoping for?

White's space advantage must count for something.

I was thinking exactly the same.

Re: BRITISH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS - THE GAMES
a3 is a bit of a problem at the moment. So White may end up defending an isolated c-pawn? Probably not what Nigel was looking for. Is this what's called a minority attack? 32...Nd6 possible?

Yes, he has to defend it! But it's quite tenable still, of courseJohn Moore wrote:White's space advantage must count for something.

I've been having a poke around in chessbase, since I considered playing bf4 a few years ago. I can't see any super-GM games, or signs its innocuous reputation is being revised. Think it must have been intended for surprise value only. Adams didn't seem surprised, so guess it didn't work out.

Wonder who offered the draw? Presumably Nigel, and Mickey now gets a crack with White.

Doubt that White was ever worse - but that would hardly have been what Nigel was looking for.

Could Mickey have tried Rba8 and if Nc7 Ra3?

Presumably a short break, as the link for game 2 isn't working at the moment.
