e2e4 Uxbridge Congress : 19-21 March 2010

Post by Sean Hewitt » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:43 pm

The next Uxbridge weekend congress will take place from Friday 19th March - Sunday 21st March 2010.

For the first time, we will have two FIDE rated sections. The Open, which is also a British Championship Qualifyer will require a minimum rating of 1900 or ECF grade of 155 or above to enter. The Major, which will also be FIDE rated, will be open to rated players Under 2000 or unrated players who have an ECF grade below 170. We also have a Minor section, which has increased prize money, and is open to players graded below 140.

One week to go to the next e2e4.org.uk Uxbridge Chess Congress and we are still on course for a record entry. The hotel only has a couple of rooms left as well so we strongly suggest that if you want to play you should enter now.

So which sporting event are you using to determine colours this time, Sean?

UEFA Europa League : Liverpool v Lille : Thurs 18th March KO 8.05pm

If there are 0, 1 or 2 goals, the top seed in each section will be WHITE in Round 1.

If there are 3 or more goals the top seed will be BLACK in Round 1.

I have also today announced additional prizes in both the Open and Major due to the level of entries. And it's still not too late to enter for those interested.

Keith will have had to change his opening prep after that last minute Torres goal!

I've spent 6 hours today on putting games in PGN files, and only managed to do 20. :(

Are you writing them by hand, Alex?

I would have been much quicker, but 1 game took nearly 2 hours. I couldn't understand Greek algebraic, and we only had one copy of the game. I had no idea what Pi to gamma 3 meant, or I to eta 6 (all written using the Greek symbols, of course).

Forget the FIDE laws, next year we're forcing them to write in English!

Alex, did you think of scanning in the scoresheet and then using Google translate? That normally works for me (just kidding!)

Just noticed a player from Imperial College London in the Major. He was bottom board of the Imperial 2 team who were the overnight leaders in the BUCA event. So there is now a University-based player who is now graded, who wouldn't otherwise have been!

Presumably David Coates qualifies for the British Championship, as the others will already have qualified (or be ineligible)?
