4NCL FIDE Ratings
The 4NCL has now been rated by FIDE (http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_repo ... nt16=41967). Are the ratings right? It appears from my own results that all games have been rated using May 2010 ratings, not the September 2009 ratings shown in the spreadsheet on the 4NCL website (http://www.4ncl.co.uk/0910_FIDE_table.xls).
PS. I'm not complaining, as I gain 6 more points than I was expecting.

Nope - they are wrong (again). I've already emailed Neville Belinfante, the ECF Rating Officer and the FIDE Rating Office to make them aware.Ian Thompson wrote:The 4NCL has now been rated by FIDE (http://ratings.fide.com/tournament_repo ... nt16=41967). What part does Ray Ryan (The International Rating Officer) play in all of this?Sean Hewitt wrote:Nope - they are wrong (again). Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
If they use the September ratings, how do you calculate the new ratings of players who were unrated in Septmeber but are rated now?

You don't.Peter Shaw wrote:If they use the September ratings, how do you calculate the new ratings of players who were unrated in Septmeber but are rated now?
Any player unrated at the start of an event is considered to be an unrated player for the duration of that event, even if the player achieves a rating mid-way through the event.
So the game against the player you refer to would not be rated for the rated player.

Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
That makes sense, but I was thinking more of how it is rated for the unrated player. You can't calculate their rating change based on their September rating because they don't have one. You can't put it towards their initial rating because they already have an initial rating. So maybe these games are just disregarded?

Apologies for misinterpreting the question!Peter Shaw wrote:That makes sense, but I was thinking more of how it is rated for the unrated player. For the initially unrated player, their rating change is calculated using their rating at the time the event is rated - in comparison with the rated players rating at the start of the event.

Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
Thanks. I didn't think of doing it that way.

was the player I had in mind when asking the question! His lowest rated opponent was unrated in September so he's only going to lose about 40 points rather than 63!

Pete,
Nice to see you are keeping an eye on our Idle CC team mates grades. You will have to give Gaz the "good news" next Tuesday. He better up his game when he plays for my new team in the Northern League next season!

Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
I've just had an email from FIDE to say that the correct rating calculations will be published in two hours.
It did seem to take both Ray Ryan Foster and myself explaining their rating rules to them to get them to realise what they had done wrong!

Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
Mine still never came out - I played every round too, but one of my opponents rating 'mysteriously' disappeared when all the ratings were rounded up and so it says I only got 9 rated opponent. That sucks- I wasted a whole year trying to get one too and now its going to take another year or a £300-400 bill to play a fide rated tournament to get one.
Its no wonder people have no respect for the system when the ratings are so ludicrously difficult and expensive to obtain!!

Re: 4NCL FIDE Ratings
Oh yes, it appears I spoke too soon. I forgot the ratings dont officially come out until july and just saw that there was no rating for me yet even though the results have gone in - well spotted Ian.
2032, thats not too bad, I think I will be happy to work with such a grade.

Gareth - I assumed he had told you about this? His form was pretty poor last season in the 4NCL, hopefully he will have a better shot at it next season.Gareth Harley-Yeo wrote:His form is almost as bad as mine - you're welcome to himAndrew Wainwright wrote:Pete,
