I don't know William Jones but he's had a hell of a start, hasn't he?

Re: pairings Rd 3 British
He's on 1.5/3 in the Under 16 Championship too, and he has taken a bye in order to play the Championship (Round 3 of the Under 16s is held in the afternoon for some reason). His only loss came in Round 1 v Richard Weaving, which is neither here nor there. A victim of the fact that Weaving never had a FIDE rating. He's much better than the FIDE rating given to him for the purposes of this tournament, because he's a junior and the grade is a year old.JustinHorton wrote:I don't know William Jones but he's had a hell of a start, hasn't he?

Jack,
Can we see an opening that Stewart would have defaulted according to a previous thread?
I challenge you to "Out Surtees" Mike Surtees....
Only move pawns : that will confuse him!

Or alternatively, only move pieces?

I hope Jack's prep is a bit more up to date - Mike reverted to playing proper openings about 6 months ago - you may have seen his win against Stewart Haslinger at Bolton Easter on the BCM websiteJohn Upham wrote:Jack,

Re: pairings Rd 3 British
He was back to his old imaginative habits one week ago.
His first 7 black moves were all made by 7 different pawns.
If White had not captured on move 8 I'm sure we would
have had all 8 panws moved in the first 8 moves.

Re: pairings Rd 3 British
About 5-6 years ago, I went through a whole season opening as White with 1. Na3, the Sodium Attack (aka "Durkin's Opening). Will that do?John Upham wrote:Can we see an opening that Stewart would have defaulted according to a previous thread?
I had come to the conclusion that after 1. e4, White's position is in its last throes, then had played 1. b3 for a while, but found it rather dull. Casting around for an alternative, I came up with 1. Na3, which I am now amazed to say didn't affect my grade one way or another. Finally in the following season, I took up the reliable old 1. d4, which I am now very happy with.
Regards,
P.
