I am quite sure that in Germany all carpets are kept clean.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Ordinarily, but people have just been arriving and may have transferred unwanted materials into the venue...

I thinking the Germans were wishing this one had been swept under the carpet.
Add to the arbiters kit a box of Kleenex tissues for the barefoot players to stand on.
(This incident was a natural follow up to what happened in St.Louis, there we had Hans...and now it's feet.)

'The Times' daily list of birthdays topped today by Magnus Carlsen (32), with photograph. Lower down: Gary Lineker (62).
I am often interested, and sometimes surprised, to see who is still alive. Today: Frank Ifield (85). We older folk may remember that his hit single 'I Remember You' topped the charts for several weeks.

Frank also had "The Wayward Wind" - but the doctor cured him of that.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Wed Nov 30, 2022 4:51 pm'The Times' daily list of birthdays topped today by Magnus Carlsen (32), with photograph. Lower down: Gary Lineker (62).

(Shamelessly repeated from Tony Blackburn's "Sounds of the Sixties").

Applying To College, And Trying To Appear 'Less Asian'
New York Times wrote:The affirmative action lawsuit against Harvard seemed to confirm advice given for years to Asian Americans: Don’t play chess, don’t check the box declaring race.
New York Times wrote:When Marissa Li was growing up, she loved playing competitive chess, and spent hours studying the matches of some of her favorite players, like Bobby Fischer. But on her college application, she barely mentioned her interest in the game because she was afraid that it might come across as too stereotypically Asian.

From yesterday's commentary when Neymar scored - "It's checkmate - so goodbye Czech mates!"
The fact that Brazil were playing Croatia didn't discourage that one - needless to say Croatia subsequently equalised and went on to win the penalty shoot out. In football checkmate doesn't end the game whilst stalemates have a surprising tendency to be resolved one way or another.

Football World Cup, ITV England vs France.
After a couple of minutes play, the ITV commentator Sam Matterface said: "Is it going to be a white knuckle ride or a tight cagey game of chess?"
