I don't think so, though am not sure. My guess is that 5 0-0 Nxe4 6 Re1 was necessary for that.

In Hungary v Netherlands, Berkes and Giri have drawn in 3 moves. Not surprisingly, this is generating some comment.

Why prolong the inevitable?David Sedgwick wrote:In Hungary v Netherlands, Berkes and Giri have drawn in 3 moves. Not surprisingly, this is generating some comment.

But it was a transmission error I think.

What is the advantage to being on board 4? Is it near the exit or something?Richard Bates wrote:You might not have noticed that Azerbaijan have been playing on board 4 in every round. Presumably something to do with where board 4 is situated.Jonathan Rogers wrote:We are still on a high board, but seems strange that Canada should be playing Latvia just below us! Obviously, as others have already pointed out, the win against Canada was a better result than it seemed at the time (especially since we won two White games rather quickly).
Meanwhile, France, China, Hungary, Israel - you have to scroll down for them. But Olympiads are so competitive that it must be this way - it s only really a problem if it happens regularly.
Incidentally from an anti- cheating perspective this is probably extremely bad practice!

Presumably for the advantage of the spectators to see their home team?MJMcCready wrote:What is the advantage to being on board 4? Is it near the exit or something?

Sarah Longson crashing through impressively today. Looks like a won game after 15 moves.

The regulations (which it seems many players have not read) prohibit draw offers in the first 30 moves. So either a transmission error or complete disregard of the rules.David Sedgwick wrote:In Hungary v Netherlands, Berkes and Giri have drawn in 3 moves. stockfish is promising joy for us board four - doesn't look all that difficult either.
we can certainly say that Nigel's 8...Nge7 was the right choice!

If (still a big if) we win this, can we be paired with the USA in the last round for a quick draw?? Er, though not before move 30, of course.
EDIT: Actually, it is so tight at the top, that no teams will be doing anything like last round draws. Also just spotted that the player who beat Luke (Lorparizangeneh) has scored a GM norm.

Bit worried about Howell's game (move 15). Down on the clock and position.
