Howell went back to f8, so wanting some more time to think. Decision time, going back to f8 now (move 69) allows threefold repetition. Wonder how big the crowd is at Sheffield watching this!

Definitely, though things will be a bit simpler now some more exchanges have taken place. I hate queen and pawn endings, though. Er, or king and pawn endings...

Howell was winning now looking back at the live board: go Hawkins! Probably a draw but each player is going to fight. Hawkins wants the norm Howell to keep with the leaders.

are the times advertised on the live games reliable? they sometimes show players with less than a minute on the clock. if that was me the legs would be doing a jive under the table and the hands look like an alcoholic.

Hawkins now behind on time! Is he checking to get more time on the clock and waiting to snap the pawn off later? After all those checks, he must have more time than the live board is showing. Clearly they are not accurate or not updated fast enough.

if the clock times are reliable, they are very interesting. Howell has been playing on the increment, under 1 min for most of the game. Hawkins around 5 minutes most of the time. So Hawkins playing at the same speed, but keeping a small cushion. Maybe a tactic for keeping calm.
