The death (on 1 January) of Ralph Hopton is listed in today's 'Daily Telegraph'. Those with long memories will remember him as a Trustee of the BCF and as a Founder of the Friends of Chess; his widow Ann was General Secretary of the BCF from 1971 to 1975.
