Uxbridge Chess Tournament

[Martin Benjamin]

I can play in tournaments only rarely because of family and work. However, I did get the opportunity to visit the Uxbridge International last week, and I wanted to compliment Sean Hewitt and those involved in organising and running this event. The location and facilities were good, and everything else seemed right - playing schedules, time controls and the behaviour of the competitors. Whether in chess or in other walks of life, volunteers are frequently not given the tribute they deserve, so I just thought it right to acknowledge the work of Sean and all tournament organisers, who give a lot of time for little or no financial reward.
