I couldn't decypher the signature in one of the books:

so I asked for help on rootschat.com

Someone on rootschat.com suggested "J S McTear" and I think that could well be correct.

John Smith McTear was a solicitor and author (1901 and 1911 Irish censuses) and also a board game designer:
