There's another forum I'm on where we devote an entire thread to those sorts of juxtapositions. I think my all-time favourite had to be:
The front of the Daily Mail today was totally reprehensible

Was that today? (The sexist headline trailing the inside feature on...legs)
Or just every day?

Today's cover is totally reprehensible too!

The Daily Telegraph has
weighed in.
Nothing new until you get to the end, where you find
DT wrote:
"Meanwhile, Short's tweets have drawn an angry response from Ilyumzhinov himself.
"Dear Nigel," he wrote. "Thank you for your tweets regarding our coup. We really appreciate it. Gens Una F**king Sumus! We are one f**king family.""
Anyone know anything about this?

I can't remember which day it was. I agree that it would apply very well to today.

The text is from an apparent letter written on FIDE notepaper and signed by Ilyumzhinov as "ex-FIDE president".

That looks like a bit of spoof 'fake news' (the swearing fax from KI and NF - why would they sign and send that together?)

Hard to believe the DT, with all of their in-house expertise, would have been fooled by such a simple scam.

Kirsan wrote:I can assure you that the meaning of my words is the following - 'I am ready to leave the position of FIDE President if this is will [sic] be necessary for FIDE'.
The ECF has recent experience with two of the last four Presidents resigning before completion of their term of office. In neither case was a temporary or acting President appointed, rather the post remained vacant until the next scheduled election.

What in-house expertise? They have sacked all their journalists and just copy stuff they find on websites and publish it under fake bylines.

I was under the impression this was roughly the point that Nick was making.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Includes the optimistic claim that our very own ECF is "influential".

To Nick Faulks:
You have supported the Kalmyk crook, Kirsan, through thick and thin all these years. What do you think of your dear chum, Nigel, shafting him now? What has the Executive Director suddenly seen that was not obvious to the rest of the universe (except you) before? Pray enlighten us, please...
