Stephen certainly didn't waste any effort this morning.

Draws on the top two boards. He can be very happy with a 2600+ performance and (barring a white win on board 3) a share of second place.NickFaulks wrote:Stephen certainly didn't waste any effort this morning.

We don't see much about Stephen Gordon these days in tournaments and leagues. Is he gainfully employed outside of chess, or working as a coach?LawrenceCooper wrote: He can be very happy with a 2600+ performance and (barring a white win on board 3) a share of second place.

He has a full time (non chess) job and had to miss the last 4NCL weekend because of exams. He remains a very strong and difficult to beat GM despite having less time to play and study.Roger de Coverly wrote:We don't see much about Stephen Gordon these days in tournaments and leagues. Looks like Cuenca Jimenez is giving it his best shot.LawrenceCooper wrote:(barring a white win on board 3)
By the way, is that 8.30pm start time really correct? I know it says that on the website, but still seems very odd.

That's not unusual for Spanish tournaments. The Calvia Festival in October which has attracted some British players has 8 pm round times. They even play to a move rate of 40 in 90 plus an extra 15, with 30 second increments.

From what I remember the majority of players on Majorca are amateur players, so having 8:30pm starts means they don't have to worry about time off work; most places are within an hour drive from Palma vicinityNickFaulks wrote:Looks like Cuenca Jimenez is giving it his best shot.LawrenceCooper wrote:(barring a white win on board 3)
