FIDE payment site: Player license over-the-board 1yr 60.00 EUR

Post by Paolo Casaschi » Tue Jan 16, 2018 1:33 pm

Hello,

a separate thread has a message with a link to the FIDE payment web page:

https://payment.fide.com/payment.phtml

In the list of fees for payment, the first option is a "Player license over-the-board 1yr 60.00 EUR".
No mention of this in the explanatory link on the payment site http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html? ... w=category

Anyone knows what this is and who might be requested to pay a over-the-board player license fee?

Just a curiosity...

A player who wishes to take part in a FIDE rated event but for whatever reason is not a member of any national federation may play as FID.

The cost seems high, but the reason is that it was felt necessary to avoid any appearance of undercutting those nation federations which charge their members for permission to play in FIDE rated events. The ECF is proud of its status as the benchmark here.

However, when I come to rate the tournament, it is not enough to be FID - I am usually advised by the ECF that the player must be aligned to a FIDE nation. In other words ENG or RUS. So is there any point in being FID if you are going to play over the board rated events?

Really? That sounds very odd.

Probably to do with if the player is licenced or not. You can be FID without paying the €60 in which case the tournament becomes financially liable. FIDE effectively fines tournaments for having unlicenced FID players and as the bill goes through the ECF it would be reasonable for such players to be queried.
