Mordaunt unable to get across the finish line, and Rishi comfortably beats Truss in the runoff ...then loses the General Election in 2024. Probably an embarrassingly short tenure as leader, and then Tom, Kemi and Penny will get another shot at it.Joey Stewart wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:13 pmBut back on topic of Boris.... Who do we think might come out on top of the replacement elections? If I was a conservative MP I'd be worried that Boris mode of operating runs deep in the cabinet and anyone who worked too close to him is likely to be seen as tainted by the same brush.
Johnson probably has to stay put as a back bencher to 2024 as Labour would hoover up his Uxbridge and South Ruislip seat in a by-election for fun and make him look even worse, (if that’s possible!)

Re: Boris Johnson
Assuming the new Prime Minister takes office on 5th September and then leaves on Friday 3rd May 2024 (general elections normally being held on the first Thursday in May on a year they are due) they would do so as the second shortest serving Prime Minister since the war; ahead of Alec Douglas-Home and about a month shy of Anthony Eden. However as the previous election was in December they could linger on until then - although they overtake no post war Prime Minister bar Eden.Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 10:39 am

As for Boris I'm sure he will resume his journalistic and media "career" with all sorts of confidential conversation and sensitive national information being blurted out.

Re: Boris Johnson
Well the FTPA has now been scrapped so the then PM won't be obliged to have an election by May 2024 anymore.
(as was previously the case)
If things look bad electorally or indeed more generally, they are likely to put it off until later that year now.
Theoretically it can now be pushed back to the start of 202*5*, but that remains pretty unlikely.

he is basically a liberal with a sense of trying to retain the west in the liberal foldMatt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 10:13 pmSimple explanation - he is a narcissistic sociopath.
And lots in his party (and their media supporters) have known what he was and is for a long time, but still did their Faustian deal with him.
I hope it causes them much pain for a long time to come.

Being a 'liberal' and being a 'narcissistic sociopath' are not mutally exclusive. As for 'the west' and 'the liberal fold' I suppose you mean the same people who invaded Iraq and carried out a bloody campaign of torture and mass murder.AlanLlewellyn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 22, 2022 10:15 amhe is basically a liberal with a sense of trying to retain the west in the liberal foldMatt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 10:13 pmSimple explanation - he is a narcissistic sociopath.

And no, with due apologies to my club mate "liberal" isn't the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of him.

A reminder to all that "libertine" is not coterminous with "liberal".
