This years Reykjavik open started yesterday and included a lovely win for Simon Williams. Plenty of English participants, round 2 starting shortly on this double round day.

Tabatabaei is currently on 6/6 and still playing but what you say regarding the round 8 pairing should still be true as he is far more likely to win or draw than to lose.

Bah, you were too quick for me Lawrence! I realised that Tabatabaei was still playing and edited my post. However I don't think anyone else can reach six points so Matthew should still play Tabatabaei in the next round.

Yes, unless he loses which isn't likely.

After a hard fought draw with Tabatabaei in round 8, I was hoping Matthew would be paired against Ivanchuk in the last round. Unfortunately he got Zhou Jianchao instead. This is the player who recently broke Bogdan Lalic’s record non-losing streak:

He is also unbeaten in this tournament!

Unfortunately Matthew lost in the final round. He finished on 6.5/9, which was matched by Simon Williams who won his last game:
