It is possible that of the 20 games in the top five matches of the last round of the Open, there will be 19 draws and one decisive result (Nepo beating Bacrot). That is quite a forest of draws!

Re: Batumi Olympiad
It will affect the tiebreak in absolute terms, but relative to Poland, with whom we are now tied on 17 points, they will quite deservedly finish above us (Duda has played Karjakin, MVL, Ivanchuk, Shak, Aronian, Caruana, Ding & Vishy in successive rounds; he's earned a rest)Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 12:48 pmDoes Gawain's result affect our tie-break?
(Computer thinks he is totally lost now after 55...Kg7.)
It might matter if Czech Republic beat Ukraine (or even vice versa) though I assume a drawn match is more likely there

Ukraine's hopes for gold now resting on the ability to hold a draw in a pawn-down ending of the last remaining Russian

Czech Republic might now beat Ukraine. Anyone bothering to try and calculate anything?

6th as it stands, 5th if that's 2-2.

If you're trying to beat someone much higher rated than you don't get down to the increment!

Kosteniuk back to holding (maybe it was never actually lost) and 2-2 looking likely in UKR-CZE

Well yes, to judge by opposition, only occasionally do England and Poland seem to have been playing in the same event.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 1:06 pmIt will affect the tiebreak in absolute terms, but relative to Poland, with whom we are now tied on 17 points, they will quite deservedly finish above us (Duda has played Karjakin, MVL, Ivanchuk, Shak, Aronian, Caruana, Ding & Vishy in successive rounds; he's earned a rest)Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 12:48 pmDoes Gawain's result affect our tie-break?

Apparently there's a threefold claim from Kosteniuk, not sure how

I think the two games in the Czechs versus Ukrainians both ended in wins, resulting in 2-2. That 'forest of draws' now has three wins from 20 games. And England seem to have finished fifth? What was the previous best result before that? (Both Olympiad and Euro Teams.)

Sorry to be slow here, but do we know who has won?
