e2e4 Sunningdale Congress : 24-27 May 2013

e2e4 Sunningdale Congress takes place 24th - 27th May 2013.

Some congresses are 'grand' but this years Sunningdale Congress has a 'three grand' prize fund, so if you're allowed out to play this Whitsun, why not come along and play at Sunningdale?!

There are, for the first time ever, four FIDE rated sections; Open, U2050 (175), U1800 (145) and U1600 (120).

Full details are here, and online entry is availble here.

I hope that we see you there!

This seems unlikely.

Can people claiming free entry still get £7 off the entry fee...? :?

We're very nearly out of hotel rooms so, if you want to stay at the venue, now would be a good time to enter!

We were able to get an extra 10 rooms but they have sold already, so the hotel is now full.

There is still space in the event itself though for those not requiring accommodation or staying elsewhere.

Colours for this event will be determined by who bats first in the Indian Premier League match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on Friday 24th May. If the Royals bat first then the top seed in each section will play white in round 1. If the Indians bat first, then the top seed will be black in round 1.

I suppose the top seed could opt for a bye in round 1? But it is unlikely.

The current second and third seeds in the U2050 are both taking round 1 byes.

Where does one find out who bats first ? ( I am not a cricket fan, as you may gather )

Looks like quite a large entry. The Open has 51 entrants, the next section down (U2050) has 61. (44 in the lower two sections). Interesting seeing who of those around the grading boundary have opted to play up in the Open and which have opted to play in the U2050 section. Should be competitive!

ITV4 are televising the match. The toss will take place some time around 15:15.
