draw up for the first round of the british champs keith Arkell with black against the fast improving jonthan Hawkins who got an im norm at last year British looks like the toughest draw of the round in my view. what your views?. Jonthan does not play that many fide events but i think fide rating low for his level as his ecf 220. gained 93 elo points at last British and drew with Keith Arkell and stephen Gordon and glenn flear and Danny gormally.

They played at last years event and drew. They also played in the British rapidplay last year and drew. I think Hawkins had black in both cases. Should be a tough game.
If I was forced to try and predict a so called upset amongst the higher boards I'd go for Yang Fan Zhou with White vs Andy Greet. Whilst Jack Rudd vs Simon Williams should be entertaining no matter what the result !

Simon Williams is where my money would be and a good bet to win the whole thing. Arkell will sparkle I think in his match.
