It would seem when searched Ivanov had a device taped to him. Ken Regan is suggesting that a likely hypothesis is that what was found on his chest was a hidden camera wired to a processor (such as a Bifferboard) in his shoe although I really have no idea whether there was any proof of that. Others have suggested it was a heart monitor, perhaps to distract from his real method. again no proof of that either.

Further Ivanov still demanded his entry fee back and the organiser paid it instead of calling the police which a few people wanted him to do so I guess we wait to see where he is going to play next.

A week or so ago he apparently entered a tournament in Milan. The organisers didn't clock it straight away and registered him and it was only a couple of days later they realised who they would be dealing with. They rang Ivanov and told him he couldn't play. Ivanov said he had already bought a plane ticket and he was coming and he did turn up. The organisers then gave him 150 euros to go away. He took the money and left.

Why would he tape a device to his chest to cheat with, when, a year ago, on the first page of this thread, it says that he took his shirt off and nothing was found? If, a year ago, he was cheating in a way that has so far not been found, why would he switch to something that is very easy to detect?

I find it difficult to believe a camera could have been found on him without it being obvious what it was. Once you've found it you would be able to see it had a lens.

A Spanish site has it differently: it's the shoes again!

Bulgarian FIDE Master Borislav Ivanov has been sent Navalmoral Mata tournament in round 6 because his opponent, GM Guliyev asked the ref Ivanov should remove their shoes to see if hiding a sophisticated device. Ivanov did not take off his shoes and was awarded the point to Guliyev. Then in round 7 Ivanov was not included in the match. In this tournament Ivanov walked in front with 4.5 points out of 5, including 2 wins against Grandmasters and tables against another.
This is the second time you are being asked to remove their shoes Ivanov .... and is the second time we do not accept. In Blagoevgrad Open 2013 tournament, in (Bulgaria), GM Max Dlugy Ivanov stated that some sophisticated device hidden in his shoes, so he asked the organizers Ivanov passed by the metal detector. Dlugy and Ivanov went smoothly for the metal detector. Then Dugly, dissatisfied with the result, requires a Phase 2 selection: remove your shoes, and when Ivanov was not accepted, claiming that his socks stank. Worth mentioning that Ivanov to his appearance in this tournament after being banned for four months, resulting in the withdrawal of some players

He should have been paid liberally in boot leather, applied vigorously and repeatedly to the backside.

This refers to the 6th round.
They fail to mention what the chessvibes site reports about Ivanov's shoes checked after the 4th round (one of the suspicious victories against a GM opponent). If this is true, either Ivanov might have a point losing his patience and refusing to be checked at every round, or he might be using different cheating methods at each round.

From the initial reports (and from the lack an official statement from the tournament organizer/arbiter that supposedly checked Ivanov more than once during the event) it looks another missed opportunity to figure out what is really going on.

I'm disappointed to read that he was registered to play in Krakow at the end of the month, but isn't on the list of entrants any more. It would have been interesting to see him in action first hand.
