Caruana might be gifted a crucial point today. Topalov is a brilliant player, but this is the wrong field in which to be slightly off form.

The clocks on Chess24 not at their best again - they had a massive discrepancy in Aronian-Svidler that the official site doesn't seem to bear out at all.

Do you mean Qxd4? If so, it's not clear that he couldn't but white does get some attack in compensation for the pawn.

The computer says that 39...g5 was an unnecessarily committal move for Caruana to make just before the time control, when he held a big advantage.

Can Karjakin be losing? I'm seeing some strange zugzwangs ( is that the plural? ) but can't work them out.

Computers say that Anand is indeed beating Karjakin, which would upend lots of predictions. Maybe both Caruana and Karjakin will no longer be in the lead by the time they sit down to play each other in the last round... My (virtual) money is swinging to Anand for the first time.

EDIT: Or maybe not? Strange position at move 42.

The pressure is mounting on all the players, but especially those battling at the top. I've been amazed at how Anand has managed to get anywhere from the position he had whilst Aronian's game has swung from pleasant to unpleasant. All to play for........

Highly unimpressed. Maybe not easy, but at move 40 it looked as though top 5 technique should bring home the point.

The second win he has chucked away against the back marker - that can't be good.
