Not quite sure where to put this....

Max Davidson has a couple of pages at the start of the "Weekend" Section about chess, referring to The London Chess Classic, Junior chess in the Richmond area, internet chess, etc., including one bit which made me smile,

'....David Bentley, from Chesterfield, father of a child chess prodigy, who has launched a programme for distributing free chess sets to schools in Derbyshire. "We've had great support from local companies", he says proudly.'

Presumably ECF and Holloid should have been mentioned somewhere!? (Disclaimer - I am not belittling Mr Bentley's activities or suggesting he set out to mislead the author of the article. This might even be an entirely separate scheme!)

The article is actually fairly interesting, and discusses chess activity in primary Schools and lack of it thereafter. A Weblink for the London Chess Classic is given.

It is an entirely different scheme. He was talking about it at the 4NCL weekend.

"It is an entirely different scheme. "

In some ways that's good news, as it means that the report is accurate. On the other hand, in other ways, it isn't such good news....
