Players wanted for '19-'20 season for div 3North team
hi there,
I'm forming a team to enter Division 3 North in the 2019-2020 competition. We currently have 8 players (from the East Riding of Yorkshire area) and would like to invite other, enthusiastic, players to join us.
Regards
Douglas

Is this Euwe's North Sea Tigers?

One issue with these clever invented names is they tend to kill off opposing teams' chances of getting any local publicity for their feats. A local paper may be amenable to reporting the results of a match against (say) Manchester or Cambridge University which are identifiable locations but it is less likely to report a match against (say) Lasker's Legends where it would probably need to add a sentence to explain who Lasker was.

Apologies for the slow response.
We have quite a few lower graded players already so we are now just looking for one or two >2000 FIDE rated (>ECF180 graded) players.

I'd say that's a bit low for Div 3N, but pass their details to Mark Whitehead and he'll no doubt be able to add them to the Manticores squadJohn Reyes wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 3:22 pmare you looking for any grade as I have had two under 120 players looking to play at the 4ncl

Personally I find team names comprising solely a location or institution rather dullRoger Lancaster wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 7:49 pmOne issue with these clever invented names is they tend to kill off opposing teams' chances of getting any local publicity for their feats. These days, there are other ways to publicise match results in addition to local newspapers. A suggestion was made to publicise team news on Twitter for example.

I wouldn't disagree as to the effectiveness of different media, Eric, and I gave up on my local paper once I found a better way to wrap my fish and chips, but others may find their local rag useful. For those people, I suspect the issue I raised may still apply.

Local newspapers are a great source of comedy. Normally there'll be someone standing in a road wearing a hi-vis jacket pointing angrily at a pothole, or a whole street full of people standing with crossed-arms next to their bins that haven't been collected for two weeks.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 3:56 pmI wouldn't disagree as to the effectiveness of different media, Eric, and I gave up on my local paper once I found a better way to wrap my fish and chips, but others may find their local rag useful. Alex, I can tell that you don't have enough cats stuck up trees in Warwickshire. But, seriously, some people value the local rag.Alex Holowczak wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 9:42 amLocal newspapers are a great source of comedy.
