Congratulations to Leonard on his birthday and for his continuing chess journalism. Thanks also for his posts on this forum.

Happy Birthday Leonard...we never met but I got one of your books as a birthday present when I was 12 years old from my cousin who was 18... chess puzzles by Leonard Barden...(over 40 years ago now) also I remember another early book that I got that was maybe even earlier than that...the Penguin book of chess positions by C.H.O.D Alexander (yep just googled it...I would have been 8 years old in 1973...that was the first chess book I ever got) and from memory (I might be mistaken) there were test positions in the final chapter and several leading British players had their test scores there for comparison and I think you might have been one of those players...great to see you posting regularly here still.

Many happy returns, Leonard! You have done so much for chess over the years and the quality of your chess journalism in The Guardian continues to set the very highest standards to all chess writers, bar none.

Happy Birthday Leonard

Like Martin above, we've never met. But one of my most treasured books is a copy of Play Better Chess. It was my first chess book, given to me by my grandad many years ago.
