I have just noticed on the ChessLinks page of John Saunders that there is a link to the USCF magazine archive. This contains all issues of Chess Life except for the current year and all issues of the earlier Chess Review.

A fantastic resource for American chess. Certainly, Chess Life does tend to concentrate on American chess almost to the exclusion of anywhere else but there is still a vast amount of material.

Thank you for flagging that up, John. On a similar topic, is there a convenient listing anywhere of useful chess history (including past and current national chess federation newsletters) links.

For the ECF, I think the closest is this:

I wonder whether there will ever be a move to digitise old BCF/ECF Yearbooks (presumably available at the National Chess Library which ended up on the floor above the office, did it not?) and whatever newslettters there were before ChessMoves (was Jan/Feb 2005 the first issue of ChessMoves?).

Where would one look for an archive of ECF news from 2016 onwards? (The last issue of ChessMoves in the archives is March / April 2016).

No. The BCF had a newsletter going back at least to the 1970s. Paul Buswell would be better placed than me to say exactly what was published at that time.

Thank you. I have ChessMoves (in a box somewhere) from the mid-1990s onwards (I think). I should have remembered that before asking. But it would be interesting to have a little run-down of the history of the ECF newsletters (maybe the chess federations of Scotland and Ireland as well? Australia? New Zealand? Wales? Any other Anglophone countries?)
