Thomas Wilson Barnes was buried on August 25th, 1874 in Brompton Cemetery (plot number 76449).
According to the burial records he had a “Private Grave” the plot of which measured 113.3 x 18.3 and “no extra depth” was required.
Has anyone visited this grave and taken a photograph by any chance?
Anyone visiting Zukertort's grave may have done so.

John, I've never heard of a photograph of Barnes' grave. You would probably be doing the chess community a service if you made one available.
A similar situation exists regarding the grave of John Cochrane, which was discussed briefly in C.N. 11392 on Edward Winter's Chess History website:
https://www.chesshistory.com/winter/win ... l#CN_11392
It was noted there that the Royal Parks website
https://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/bro ... on-records
can provide an aerial view showing the location of a particular grave.
A number of other people of interest to the chess world were buried in Brompton Cemetery. To mention just one, Catherine de Vere, the mother of Cecil de Vere, was buried there on 11 July 1864, although we still don't know who his father was. In addition to the burial registers, there is also a series of "Burial Books" at the National Archives, which give further details about the burials there.

Brompton Cemetery has telephoned me to confirm that TWB is buried in Section E and that there is a headstone which is visible.
See https://portal.royalparks.org.uk/LANSA/ ... w0005.html
So, I may visit and photograph this plot, the Zukertort plot and any other chess plots I can discover at Brompton.

20 August 1874 is given by various sources as the date of Barnes' death. It is worth noting, though, that the Calendar of Wills and Administrations (Dublin), for 1874, says he died on 13 August. Presumably, this date is normally the same as the date given on the death certificate.
Has anyone seen the death certificate and can confirm the date of death given in it? What cause of death is given?
