They list a number of terms and you have to fin one that fits The only bit I saw had

Ah yes, I've seen bits of that show. It distinguishes between wrong answers and impossible answers (the latter of which can't possibly be right because they don't meet a criterion specified in the question).

The answers were:

• En prise

• Fork

The contestant first had to select the 5 answers that are not associated with chess. She failed on that one by choosing both fork and en passant.

The next question was "Which term used in the game of chess refers to one piece attacking two or more opposing pieces at the same time?" The contestant didn't know, but guessed fork on the basis that roads fork into two.

[*]I don't normally watch 'Doctors', the BBC1 lunchtime soap, but yesterday I saw a doctor, who was clearly an unpleasant character, playing online chess in his office. His running commentary included much gloating and self-satisfaction. He got his just deserts, though, by getting mated. I could see just enough of his screen to see the pattern white bishop on g5 and rook on d8 mating black king on e8. It was a pity that the message seemed to be that nasty people play chess.

At least someone on the production side had fun making the chess credible.
