We did meet with Patrick Moore at Hastings, probably when celebrating the centenary in 1995.

Patrick Moore did open it one year. I was taking photographs and he came over to (try to) quiz me on some technical point of photography.

Re: Media comments on chess
Well, certainly the first half was a bit of a downer - Fiorentina had something like 60+% of the play, but no shots on target. However the second half was a lot better. It looks like anyone who backed an anti-Italian treble across the three European trophies will be due a payout after Saturday ...Ronnie Burton wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 10:17 pmHi Tim

Re: Media comments on chess
I was looking for a picture of a West Ham badge because one version has three castles (Rooks) on it

and I was going to use this badge and make up a mate in two with three white Rooks.
On my first search for a badge I hit Amazon keyrings. and, apparently' this is a West Ham United Keyring.

I feel I am too old to get a response from the PM. Perhaps some of you feel differently for yourselves.
One way the government could help chess is to recognise it as a sport. Then VAT would not have to be paid on entry fees to such as to the British Under 8 Championship.

GLOBAL CHESS LEAGUE
There is a show on Saturday in Russell Square Gardens from 1-4pm. This is launching the GCL which will be held in July in Dubai.
This event will provide th opportunity to play speed chess against Stuart Conquest or Malcolm Pein. There are prizes for all winners.
I Haven't seen much publicity for this event. The GCL is in cooperation with FIDE. Unusually, for them, it is not federation orientated.

World Chess claim that the The Armageddon Championship Series, being played this week in Berlin, is being broadcast on many TV channels including:
I can find nothing in the Channel 4 programme schedule to support this claim.
Sports Channel Network claims to be a free to air sports channel available via TV, mobile and tablet platforms. I haven't found any way to watch this channel, or see its programme schedule, and doubt that it is broadcasting anything.
I'd be pleased to be proved wrong on either of these.

There appears to be a Channel 4 Sport on Youtube with 92,000+ subscribers which is covering the event.
