Radio Leicester broadcast a piece on the forthcoming British Championships a couple of days ago (starting approximately 11 minutes into the recording and lasting 13 minutes). Unfortunately, it's not a very riveting listen in my opinion and should have been much shorter and to the point.

Seems a large number of players in the open... I've had a look at it, will prob keep an eye on results... nice to see some Yorks players.

In contrast I thought it was a good listen and accessible for the non-player. I disagreed with only one comment: 'If you put in the time you can become a grandmaster'. Although that is arguably correct, to me it rather implied that it is within everyone's capability.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 10:15 amRadio Leicester broadcast a piece on the forthcoming British Championships a couple of days ago (starting approximately 11 minutes into the recording and lasting 13 minutes). Just found the Swedish version of "The Arbiter's song" from "Chess" the musical and felt I must share it...

How does it compare with the English version? I never saw it.

"How does it compare with the English version? I never saw it."
A good question - I didn't really recognise the Swedish version of the song, certainly the choreography was different. I did note that Tommy Korberg (the Russian) was there, as in the English version. His performance of "Anthem" is stunning - Youtube features performances from the mid 80s until now(!) I saw a couple of revivals of the show, and there were differences there too - I suspect Tim Rice and "BB" made changes at various stages.

We would really appreciate your cooperation in this regard. We have a contact email, [email protected], dedicated to receiving this kind of news, and we kindly request you to send us a brief report about your events. That is 20 July 2024
Let’s make our event really big and prove that chess is the most played game in the world!
From FIDE it being their Centenary then.
