X/Twitters Mr Dodgy is showing screenshots of recently deleted direct messages to teenaged girls, suggesting Nigel may be in a panic at his point. The snowball may be rolling down the hill.
Matt, should I infer from the absence of more detailed information that you're unaware of the content of those "deleted direct messages" ?

Thanks for clarifying, Matt. I understand - please correct me if I am wrong - that Mr Dodgy is the alter ego of Scots player Michael Duke, so I'm a little surprised that news comes from north of the border. But it sounds as though something concrete might emerge shortly in which case, rather than speculate here, I'll sit back and wait to see what it may be.

Yes, I’d imagine either someone does make a report to the police and/or a series of news articles bounce off each other. Or perhaps it does just all peter out (again), although perhaps with a rather larger Reddit and X digital footprint this time.

What measure are in place to stop future abuse within England Chess? What now needs to be done here?

I am surprised this has not made the mainstream media, especially with the recent headlines.

Simple. One of the victims needs to report their abuser.

I was hoping that Jen's successful campaign across the Atlantic would embolden victims over here ( assuming they exist, which I do ) to follow her example. All we know so far is that Sabrina Chevannes doesn't want to do that, so the GM Who Must Not Be Named is likely to get away.

But there should be measures in place to prevent this happening in future or limit the opportunity. What do other sports do at elite level?

We know that that happened when BRE was reported to the BCF. The carpet was then lifted and the brush firmly applied.

The Manchester United player that was accused of domestic abuse had the case dismissed. Hasn't he been invited back to the squad? What about the Manchester City player recently acquitted of rape ?

That was not with the England Women's Squad Roger. How are the England ladies/girls tennis, cricket, football and others safeguarded from predators?

FIFA has a confidential reporting platform; https://metro.co.uk/2023/08/04/womens-w ... t_football

England Athletics you get a full page and can either ring or use an online form; https://www.englandathletics.org/welfar ... a-concern/

And have had a recent independent safe guarding review; http://www.uka.org.uk/wp-content/upload ... ust-21.pdf

My concern about this point is that someone who has been assaulted and wants to confide in someone and/or report it but is not ready to name the person may remain quiet if they feel they will be pressured into naming the person. I have no way of knowing how difficult it must be to speak up about such situations but suspect it must be one of the hardest things imaginable.

If this is the most recent example you can think of I'd say it's time to try again, just in case things have changed.

Sabrina has been on Times Radio talking about it...

Bit ironic since in 1993 'The Times' in effect paid Nigel a lot of money...

They sound like good ideas Matt. Measures needed, especially at u18s if they are not already there (speaking from a position of ignorance).
