IM Gaspar Mathe

The sad news has been reported that the Hungarian International Master Gaspar Mathe passed away on 15th November 2023 at the age of 64.
Gaspar was born in Hungary on 19th March 1959.
He achieved a peak rating of 2420 Elo.
His strongest win came against the Russian Grandmaster Sergey Dolmatov (2620 Elo).
As black Gaspar regularly played the Petroff Defence and the Scandinavian Defence.
As white he regularly played the Exchange Variation against the French Defence.
On a personal note, I particularly enjoyed playing through his French Exchange games and have learnt some interesting ideas, which I have adopted when I play people who play the French Defence.
