John W Carr

Post by James Pratt » Fri Sep 06, 2024 6:24 pm

John Carr, a regular at the ECF Championships and last spotted at Torquay with his wife Wendy, also a player, has died. John was a wheelchair user, a quietly outspoken gentleman. I see his clubs listed as Portsmouth, Emsworth. I could not find his dates but I did see his passing had already been noted. He had not played for about 3 years. RIP.

Played John a few times. We always had a good laugh and banter. I always seemed to bump into him and Wendy away from the chess. Always had a fun chat. Will miss seeing him about.

Thanks to Brendan's photograph, I now know I met him. A sad loss.

Yeah I believe I played John at a congress (Blackpool?) about 10 years back.

RIP.
