So the general population aren't too impressed according to these posts?

Are chess players complaining? For example has anyone complained they had mate in three on the board but couldn't deliver it after being attacked by a pack of dogs or something? ;-)

Have their been further complaints? Has anyone ever used one?

I see this article puts the cost of a park chess table at £2,500 a piece (sic). £80,000 does indeed seem excessive.

Why do they call them chess boards? Can't you play draughts on them too?

Exciting news in Nottingham ... the chess table which was installed in a Sherwood car park and which was removed following adverse comments is now in storage awaiting re-deployment: https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/not ... s-10005691

The cost is quoted as £1,400. Whether this includes installation isn't clear. It was then removed at a charge yet to be determined and is now safely in storage, perhaps also at some cost to Nottingham City Council. When a more suitable site is selected by the bureaucrats (as far as I know, local chess players have not been consulted) no doubt there will be further expense to install it.

Many will have heard about the financial plight of Nottingham City Council and therefore won't be surprised by this tale of mismanagement. I'm not sorry to have moved from NCC jurisdiction six months ago!
