I was just filling in some details about his immediate family on the Family Search website (https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/pe ... s/P94Z-HW7) and came across this clip reporting on, presumably, the 1923 under 18 boys championship:
Unfortunately the link that this came from (National Library of Australia) doesn't work and I was wondering if anyone happened to have more infomation about who Alfred beat and perhaps even the moves of the game? Unfortunately BritBase doesn't have anything for that competition (see https://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/brit20.htm)The first win fell to the youngest. competitor, Alfred Mortlock (12), of. Hastings. "It was easy," Alfred told me
Another link that I don't have access to (I don't subscribe to newspapers.com) says that Alfred Mortlock's half-sister, Lady Carrie Travers, was fined £15. I think it's safe to assume that this was a driving offence of some sort.
