Just started (6.30pm BST Friday) in Karlsruhe. Big money, Carlsen top seed, also Caruana, Nepo etc. Niemann plays! after two weeks silence.
Only English name I could spot in the Freestyle is Edmund Player who is paired with Alexey Sarana.
There is also a normal open with lower but still generous prizes. That includes Nikita Vitiugov as No 2 seed (Awonder Liang No 1) and Matthew Wadsworth.
Two rounds a day, live on lichess.

Re: Grenke Freestyle Open
Judging from his FIDE history, he's now based in Germany.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 6:37 pmOnly English name I could spot in the Freestyle is Edmund Player who is paired with Alexey Sarana.
There's also Tom Quilter

In the B Freestyle section there's Ingrid Lauterbach as top seed.
Looking at the B open for normal chess, there are 1274 (!) entrants listed. Bottom seed is an English player without a FIDE rating
https://rating.englishchess.org.uk/v2/n ... de=320454G who gets the last place by virtue of his surname.
The C open has 588 players listed.
