Can anyone help me with the value of my Chess pieces please

The chess pieces have been brought over from Vietnam from when my uncle was in the army in the 70's, it has JJ lettering on the Queen, the pieces are a kind of metal i think brass and copper, the pieces together weigh 5.5kg. The rooke is a cathedral and not castle and from what o have researched i cant find anything like them anywhere, the chess board is marble and is also remarkably heavy. I just want pointing in the right direction and to know the history of the pieces. Any comments would be much appreciated, thankyou

Any reputable auction house should be able to help, if Ian's suggestion doesn't work. It sounds as if you have something very interesting (but I have stopped collecting things...)

Joking aside I've asked an expert I know to check out this site when the pictures appear and I will PM you their opinion. They did tell me there is a good facebook site which appears to have been mentioned, he recommended that as well.

Set does look amazing - it looks more Mexican to me. The pawns seem to be a Mariachi band!

I was thinking Mexican too! Wonder how it ended up in Vietnam and where it was made (Vietnam or somewhere else)? Is the rook castle architecture particularly Mexican/Spanish?

The knight looks like a charro as well and the rook looks a bit like "Castillo Douglas" (a great Mexican name!) https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractio ... Coast.html

A charro is a Mexican cowboy in fine clothes, a vaquero would wear working clothes, and would probably have a reata (rope, the technical name for a lariat) on the saddle. It could be on the left side of course.
