Unbeaten streaks (ended by Hans Niemann)

Post by Christopher Kreuzer » Fri Oct 24, 2025 1:31 pm

This from Leonard Barden's latest chess column in The Guardian:
He [Hans Niemann] was smartly dressed, avoided saying that “chess speaks for itself”, and after defeating Abhimanyu Mishra, who had been on an unbeaten streak of 71 games, reminded his interviewer that Carlsen had been on a 53-game unbeaten streak in 2022 before they met in the infamous game which led to the lawsuit.
Interesting - maybe the background here played on Mishra's mind. Or maybe Niemann just played well.

Niemann has been very up and down in this tournament.
