The official link for pairings & results is https://www.4ncl.co.uk/data/2526/pairin ... _2526.html I think that results do get added to chess-results but I'm not sure how long after this is. The note on chess-results seems clear enough: "This is NOT the official publication of pairings.

I don't ever recall seeing 4NCL league results there. Publishing results on its own website is long standing and they are updated during play.

If updated during every weekend it would be helpful for checking norm calculations without having to manually compile all the data myself from the 4NCL website.

Mike T has kindly investigated this matter on my behalf and he was able to illicit a response from Alex H as follows:

The 4NCL has a significant number of rules that Swiss-Manager can't handle. For example:
- Players can play for more than one team in a squad
- Minority rules
- 100-point rule between different teams in the same squad

If Swiss-Manager can't handle it, we can't run the tournament on Swiss-Manager, and thus we don't. Thus it doesn't appear on Chess-Results.

Doesn't chess-results have a "dumb" mode where you just feed it results without allowing it to attempt pairings? That's duplication of effort if there's already a satisfactory reporting solution.

As I saw it, Alex H was regarding chess-results and Swiss Manager as a combined package. He didn't want to use chess-results when Swiss Manager couldn't do pairings.

As I saw it, Alex H was regarding chess-results and Swiss Manager as a combined package. He didn't want to use chess-results when Swiss Manager couldn't do pairings.

They may be used in combination: that is an option

One may feed results and pairings into chess results via other applications should one so wish.

Apparently "One can manually input results through an online interface for smaller events using a provided Database Key and SID."

OK, so to clear this up...

Swiss-Manager is perfectly capable of doing the pairings. In fact, we use it to do the team pairings in the Swiss in Division 4. It is also capable of doing it in the other divisions, except the 4NCL uses customised pairings for Divisions 1-3, in order to guarantee 1 white and 1 black in each of the first weekends. The customisation goes further. Teams in each division are divided into top and bottom half based on last year's standings, and for three of the first four weekends, teams will play one top half and one bottom half opponent. The final weekend will have two matches against teams in the same half, and one match against teams in the other half. This needs to be done manually. There's no reason why this couldn't be plugged into Swiss-Manager manually though.

As has been noticed, some of the 4NCL is put on Chess-Results, but this is done entirely manually, in order for the games to be broadcast more easily on Chess.com. Lichess is far more flexible in this sense - it doesn't need that.

The reason the league cannot be run on Chess-Results/Swiss-Manager is that the rules of the league are not programmed into it.

If $10 billion is coming my way, I am sure I can put it to good use.
