Funny. That did get me wondering how many times you have a norm seeker getting a norm at such an event, and then a while later agreeing to be the GM or IM in a norm-seeking event. If you restrict this to invitational norm events, you might be able to think of some examples.

Funny. That did get me wondering how many times you have a norm seeker getting a norm at such an event, and then a while later agreeing to be the GM or IM in a norm-seeking event. If you restrict this to invitational norm events, you might be able to think of some examples.

The two that immediately come to mind are Ravi Haria getting his second GM norm in 2021 and then playing as a GM in 2022. Ameet also got a norm in my 2023 event and then played as a GM in 2025.

I can think of a Norwegian chap... The first time I played at Gausdal (and possibly the second as well), a lad called Magnus was aiming for norms. Then he became a GM, and it was assumed he would not play again, but no, he volunteered to turn up again and didn't demand a massive fee.
