World and European Senior Team Championships 2027
The invitation documents for both these 9-round events are now published.
WORLD: Maritim Hotel, Magdeburg, Germany, 31 March (arrival)--11 April (departure). Free day on 6 April.
EUROPEAN: Acqui Terme, Italy, 23 April-3 May
Obviously the two events are far too close together in dates, for which FIDE is largely responsible for not updating its Calendar although the German dates were announced back in May. So the Italians/ECU forged ahead despite repeated warnings on my website which evidently they don't read.
This means there is a possibility the European dates might change but the World Team event is definitely on now.

Scotland has been complaining about this too. The impression we got is that neither date will change. Interesting to hear if that is not the case.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2026 9:53 amThis means there is a possibility the European dates might change but the World Team event is definitely on now.

Re: World and European Senior Team Championships 2027
After the Italians posted their invitation to Acqui Terme at the weekend, Andy Burnett wrote to me and lots of officials complaining, good for him, and I posted a very angry page on my website (since rewritten twice) which the German Federation Paul Meyer-Dunker president read (after Ingrid Lauterbach told him about it).Alex McFarlane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2026 1:32 pmScotland has been complaining about this too. Then he got busy and also wrote to me, and FIDE etc, and as a result the Magdeburg invitation got posted yesterday, sooner than originally planned, and FIDE at last have the Magdeburg dates in their calendar.
Meyer-Dunker implied that he is trying to persuade the Italians/ECU to change, but maybe it cannot be done because contracts are presumably signed with the Acqui Terme council etc and they may not be willing to change. We shall see but in the meantime it's safe to plan for Magdeburg.
I think Ireland will send several teams to Magdeburg and none to Italy unless ECU change. This year we were one of the few countries to support the European event.

The ECU do appear to have moved the 2027 European Individual which was initially clashing with the Grand Swiss next May. Both websites are now showing provisional dates of the first half of June.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2026 2:13 pmAfter the Italians posted their invitation to Acqui Terme at the weekend, Andy Burnett wrote to me and lots of officials complaining, good for him, and I posted a very angry page on my website (since rewritten twice) which the German Federation Paul Meyer-Dunker president read (after Ingrid Lauterbach told him about it).Alex McFarlane wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2026 1:32 pmScotland has been complaining about this too. Re: World and European Senior Team Championships 2027
I doubt that many Senior amateurs enter the European individual championships.
The senior individuals are still down for Chotowa, Poland, on unspecified dates in July.
The German Senior Championships are down to start on 23rd July so presumably ECU will want to finish well ahead of then.
It would be good if they could fix the dates soon.

The Euro dates also clash with Tegernsee, which is a major consideration for me.

But it at least shows a willingness to compromise when calendar clashes occur.Tim Harding wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2026 10:57 amI doubt that many Senior amateurs enter the European individual championships.
